I've been trying to make money online for a couple of years now. I've regularly sat up in to the early hours of the morning tapping away at the keyboard in an attempt to make money online.

It's not been without success. I've earned thousands of dollars in that time. But its still frustrating, very frustrating. I see what the big boys in internet marketing are earning and want to make the same huge amounts that they do!

So how do they do it? What is their secret? Where are you and I going wrong?

Well it's only recently that I suddenly saw the wood for the trees. The penny has dropped! I now understand what the top gurus are doing differently to the vast majority of "wannabe" internet marketers!

They do two things that most of us don't!

1. They invest more money and less time

2. They leverage the time and skills of others

It really is as simple as that. Most of us "wannabes" invest loads of our time instead of spending any cash, am I right?

For some reason we all believe we can make money online without investing any significant amounts of money. We believe the sales pages of other marketers that tell us that with a bit of search engine optimisation and by submitting a few articles, we'll start to earn money online.

So that's what we do. We spend hours writing articles that pull in hardly any traffic, and we spend hours on keyword density and mega tags and then wonder why the money doesn't simply pour in! In reality you will make some money from these tactics, but I'm telling you now it won't make you rich!

You would never start a business up in the real world and expect it to make you a millionaire without having to invest a lot of money into it. Well the virtual world is no different.

Do what successful entrepreneurs do. Invest your time in planning, researching and tracking results. Spend your money on outsourcing routine tasks such as content creation, link generation and professional copywrtiting services.

Start working in this way and your fortunes will change dramatically!

Why would you:

- Spend hours writing poorly researched articles that pull in little traffic

- Spend hours finding link partners when $50 gets you a PR5 one way link

- Spend hours uploading articles to individual directories when there are services that will submit to hundreds in minutes

- Spend hours writing sales copy when you're not a copywriter

- Spend hours researching keywords when there are automated tools

- Spend hours creating products when there are thousands of PLR and Resale products available

These are just a few examples of where the majority of us work differently from the top online marketers.

I've started to spend a lot more on outsourcing certain time consuming services and its already showing dividends, my traffic stats are climbing dramatically!

If you want to earn serious money online, you need to step back and put a financial plan together just as you would with an offline business. Invest your money to grow your business at the start and you'll definitely see a return on your investment. Stick to the fundamentals of seo and traffic generation, but get someone else to do it for you!
